1.0 Overview:
_______________

This README describes the current firmware version for the IBM BladeCenter SAS Connectivity Module and procedure for updating firmware on the module.

The module is supported with the Advanced Management Module in BCE, BCH, BCS, BCT, or BCHT chassis types.

If the module is operated in a BCs chassis. Before updating the Storage Modules to a version higher then 0.70, you MUST first update the SAS Connectivity Modules to version 3.71. After the SAS Connectivity Modules are updates to version 3.71, you can then proceed to update the Storage Modules.

The Web Browser SAS Module Interface is the recommended method to update

1) Open a web browser, and point to the IP Address of the SAS Module

2) Login with your ID and password (USERID/PASSW0RD)

3) Click the Update Firmware link

4) Select the SAS Module, and browse to file the new firmware image (brsasm0371.fuf) on your local machine

5) Select OK to begin the firmware download process

6) Wait for firmware file to transfer- DO NOT TURN OFF MODULE during transfer or after file finishes transferring.

7) The module will then transfer the firmware image and reboot automatically.

****Do not power off/on the unit yourself until after the module reboots itself after the firmware update.****

3.2 CLI Firmware Download Steps

TFTP is the method used to update the firmware. The SAS Module uses a tftp client to install the firmware onto the module. You must have a configured tftp server on your local network where the module can access the file.

1) Place the BRSASM0371.fuf file onto the tftp server in the default directory for access.

2) Telnet to the module and run the following command
	fwdownload <IP Address> BRSASM0371.fuf

3) The module will ask you to confirm with a "y" response.

4) Wait for firmware file to transfer- DO NOT TURN OFF MODULE during transfer or after file finishes transferring.

5) The module will then transfer the firmware image and reboot automatically.

****Do not power off/on the unit yourself until after the module reboots itself after the firmware update.****

4.0 Configuration Information
_______________________________

Detailed information on configuring the IBM BladeCenter SAS Connectivity Module can be found in the documentations on the BladeCenter Documentation CD provided with each module.

When the module is installed in a BC-E, BCH, BCT, or BCHT chassis, the module will automatically apply the first predefined zone configuration. This zone configuration provides access for all internal blade ports to see all external ports, and for the external ports to see the other external ports.
When using the Disk Boot System, no changes to the default zone configuration is required.

When creating custom zones through the web browser interface, it is not required to have the zone group ID see itself. You only to to create permissions to allow the zone group ID to see other zone group IDs.

- When attempting to reset the module through the AMM interface, if you receive an error message that the AMM cannot connect to the SAS Module, reset the module to clear the error.
